Fashion Photography Workshops in Como, Italy

This workshop is for all people that love photography and have the desire and will to become better by having a clearer understanding of light and composition. Since 2002 Steve has taught many workshops, both in the USA and in Europe, his students range from new all the way up to professional photographers.

He will show you how to use light, control light, to recognize a great location, how to work a location to it's best use and how to direct models. It will be mostly you shooting in turn with the rest of small group. Steve will walk with you through the town, find a location you like & the entire group will assist you in getting a great image. Then the group will walk some more, find another location and the next photographer will shoot while the rest of the group will assist them. Steve will be beside you to help in getting a great image for you. He feels once he shows you how to get a great image, you will better understand light, controls of light, looking for a cool location & how to direct the model.

This is a hands on workshop, it is not about Steve talking all day in a room, but being right beside you while you shoot, giving you pointers on how to get a better image.

All workshops will include:

Professional model from Milan and a make up artist/hair stylist.
Steve will shoot the first one or two shots of the day to allow you to see how he works: Looking for a good location, how to determine if he needs to modify the light and if so what he needs light control wise. You will also see how he works with the models. You will shoot throughout the day and he will show you how to shoot beautiful images even in the middle of the day by using light controls and using the location to it's best advantage. Sometimes it is easier and faster to cross the street or go around the corner to shoot rather than force yourself to shoot at a difficult location.

Dates & Fees: May 19-20 and May 21-22. May 19-20 is the primary workshop date with the 21st & 22nd being overflow if needed. The price is not fixed as yet but it will be in the $1100 range for the workshop only.

Schedule: Day one is a travel, get settled into your hotel room and explore Lake Como a little bit. In early afternoon we will all get together & introduce ourselves. Steve will answer any questions you may have about the shoot, the models, locations you will be shooting in, about the town etc. If you bring your portfolio, Steve will review and give you suggestions. Your portfolio can be on an iPad, laptop, prints or book.

Day two is the morning seminar about light followed by all of use moving through Como shooting with the model.

What you will leave with:

You will see how Steve shoots.
You will learn new techniques about shooting, light control, having a better understanding of light and composition.
You will learn how to use strobe to either solve a light problem or to give a different look to an image.
You will leave with great fashion images and, more importantly, a much better understanding of how to do it when you get home.

I have been asked from time to time "are the Italians unfriendly towards Americans?" The answer is no, Italians do not just like Americans, they love Americans.

The language for all of the workshops will be English.
