As part of an image library building project for our client, we captured this strong industrial portrait. Employing a sophisticated setup, we utilized two strobe systems to achieve the desired effect. One of the strobes, positioned approximately 50-60 feet (15-18 meters) to the left using a hard reflector, cast a sharp and intense light, while the other strobe, 40 feet (12 meters) away on the right using a large softbox, which emits a diffused glow, creating a contrast. I directed the model to twist his body to the left, and also directed him to keep his face focused on the camera. Embracing my signature style, I composed the shot with an off-center framing, as I normally do. See below for a BTS (Behind The Scenes) photo.

About the Image

We captured this strong industrial lifestyle portrait as part of us creating a massive image library for our client.

Using a sophisticated setup, we utilized two strobe systems to achieve the desired effect. One of the strobes is using a lot of power, 2000 watt seconds (2000 Joules) and even though it is a softbox, it is “Blowing Out” part of the model's face due to the power levels and distance to the subject. It's positioned approximately 50-60 feet (15-18 meters) to the left. +

The other strobe, 40 feet (12 meters) away on the right using a polished metal reflector, which emits a hard light, creating contrast. The reason the light on the right looks soft is it is turned down to about 50 watt seconds (50 Joules). This means the light on the right is adding just a little fill light.

I directed the model to twist his body to the left, and also directed him to keep his face focused on the camera. Embracing my signature style, I composed the shot with an off-center framing, as I normally do.
