Across the bridge

So I decide to drive around all of Lake Como. I leave Como & head to Bellagio. As I'm driving I arrive in Nesso, a very small village. I cross a bridge & I look to my right and there is a waterfall, a big one. So I park the car and grab a camera with a wide angle lens on it & walk back to the bridge. I shoot there, cross to the other side of the bridge and shoot there. I then decide that I need more than one lens so I walk back to the car & grab my bag. I shoot there for 20 minutes & I start to walk back to the car. All the while this was going on there were 3 men sitting outside a bar watching what I was doing. One of them asks me if i want to see more of the falls. I said yes & he lead me to a small, wet and slick passageway leading to two different viewpoints. Here there were 3 large wash tubs for laundry, in fact there was a rug someone had just washed & hung up to dry. This was the communities laundromat. |

So I'm waking back to my car again & the same man asks me if I want to shoot from a different angle. I said yes & he leads me through 2 doors, the first saying "do not enter" and shows me where someone has carved into the rock steps leading down to another viewpoint. So I gingerly descend to the new viewpoint & shot there also all the while thinking how lucky I was to be here. So I'm walking back out, closing and locking the doors behind me as I was requested to do & there was an old woman standing in front of me. I said good day and she asks if i would like to shoot the falls from the best viewpoint in town. I'm thinking well OK so I said yes. So she leads me up the steps to her house which has a balcony overlooking the falls and this image is the "Photo of the Day" - it is larger than normal so if you look at the top you can just see the ramparts of an old castle. |
