This is the Duomo, which means the town's main cathedral, in Milan. When I lived in Como, Italy in 1985 & 1986 I took a train to Milan almost every day either to shoot a fashion or beauty project, to explore for locations or visit friends. As a result I passed by this church many times but the light was always hazy, flat or overcast. Milan is in northern Italy & is in the middle of heavy industry, meaning a lot of air & water pollution.

One morning in February of 1986 I got up & took the train into Milan. I noticed the sky was royal blue and not a hint of haze or pollution. I got back on the train & rode back to Como, went to my house & got my cameras. Once back in Milan I went to the roof of the Duomo and shot for 2-3 hours.

When I arrived in Milan on Saturday after leaving the car race in Monza I just could not believe my eyes. The sky was almost as clear as it was when I shot in 1986. I told Katya, my model friend whom I had not seen in 17 years, "hello I love you" but I was going to shoot on the roof of the Duomo right then and this is just a sample of many images I finished with, about 500+.

The next morning while I was driving Katya to her other home on Lake Garda I pointed out the change in the quality of light just 14-16 hours later the sky was already a milky blue white.
