This industrial lifestyle advertising image was shot for a client in Qatar who owns a highway safety installation and repair company. Before I left the USA for Qatar, I knew the reflectors is something my client wanted me to shoot. These are glass reflectors mounted in aluminum. I did not get a perfect lighting day, it clouded over at the last minute but I still got a cool shot. In order to get the reflectors to work well I needed a bright light that I could bring with me. I had a Lowel Omni light fixture which is designed to use a 500 watt tungsten 110 volt lamp (bulb) but can use a 100 watt 12 volt lamp. I have used this before so I already had the adapter cable so I could use this with a cigarette lighter plug. This stretch of highway was under construction, so I was driven to the location late in the afternoon, showed the driver what part of the highway I wanted to shoot. I collected my gear and set everything up and waited for “Blue Hour”. Normally the ideal time for blue hour is about 40-45 minutes after the sun sets. However this was somewhat skewed due to the cloud cover that had rolled in. So we waited and every few minutes I shot a test exposure until I thought it was time. Then for 5 minutes I shot with 2 different lenses on 2 different cameras from several different POV.

The Gear: Canon digital camera set to 1/6 of a second shutter speed, 320 ISO and a Canon 400mm f2.8 lens set to f18.

The Light: Lowel Omni light with heavy overcast twilight.
