By controlling the light I am able to control what the viewer will look at, which in this case is the wardrobe. I knew that the light falling on the paving stones in the background would give me the separation I wanted between the background & the model. Then by using a strobe pack set at a high power level, having the light source close to the model, with a high shutter speed, stopping down the iris and using a low ISO of 50, the primary light source on the model is coming from the strobe, and not the sun. So by only seeing a dark, but interesting, background the viewer's eyes are drawn to the sweater, pants & boots and not the graffiti covered walls. The gear: Canon 70-200 mm (@ 130mm) f4 zoom lens @ f4.5 mounted onto a Canon Professional Digital Camera 1/160 second @ 50 ISO set in RAW mode, a Lumedyne battery powered strobe system attached to a Sunbounce Micro-Mini size reflector triggered by a MicroSync wireless sync system.
